"If you are hoping for a miracle you are likely to be pleased. If you are EXPECTING a miracle, you may be disappointed."

Q: What is a chain stay? Why do I care?

A: The chain stay is part of the frame of a bike. We make 2 different styles of Fatwheels, one to fit bikes with "standard" size chain stays, and one to fit "large" stays.  Click here for an illustration and how to measure.

Q: How do I measure the bike size?

A: Bike size refers to the size of the rear tire, which is shown on the sidewall of the tire.

Q: What is an axle extender? Do I need one?

A: An axle extender is a "bolt" which is used on the right side of a multi-speed bike, to offset the right mounting bracket so it does not interfere with the derailleur. You only need one. It is NOT useful for mounting Outriggers. NEW: We now have ones for use on single speed bikes which have very short axles. They are sold in pairs. Click here for photos and more details.

Q:  Can Fatwheels be mounted on a bike with "quick-release" hubs?

A: Only the "Outriggers" can. Fatwheels require a solid rear axle with nuts for mounting. Your local bike shop can help install a solid axle if you do not have one.

Q: How long does the rear axle need to be to mount Fatwheels?

A: Ideally, the axle should stick beyond the nuts at least 3/16 of an inch before Fatwheels are mounted. Note: Fatwheels are made to mount to 3/8" diameter axles. They may be bored out to a larger diameter (such as 10mm or 14mm) if necessary.

Q: What is the difference between the "Deluxe" wheels and the "Ultra" wheels?

A: The "Deluxe" wheels are polypropylene and imported from China. The "Ultra" wheels are made in the USA of fiberglass reinforced nylon (much stronger and more precision made). The mounting brackets are the same.

Q: I just bought (or are planning to buy) my child's first bike. It seems wobbly and hard to pedal. Will Fatwheels help?

A: YES! Fatwheels are much stronger (won't bend), more stable, and roll more easily than regular training wheels.

Q: What is the distance between the wheels (measured from the center lines)?

A: It is 21" for the 16" and 20" Fatwheels, 30" for the adult size, and 32" for the Outriggers.

Q: Is the pricing per pair?

A: YES, training wheel pricing is per pair (= two wheels and right & left mounting brackets). PRICING SHOWN DOES NOT INCLUDE SHIPPING. Cost of shipping depends on the destination. (Usually about $13 for UPS ground within the "lower 48")

Q: I am an adult who never learned to ride a bike. Will Fatwheels help?

A: Many adults (as well as children) have found Fatwheels helpful for learning to ride.

Q: I am an adult who has suffered an illness/injury which has caused a loss of my sense of balance. Will Fatwheels help?

A: Many adults in this situation have found Fatwheels helpful.

Q: Are Fatwheels guaranteed?

A: YES, SATISFACTION GUARANTEED! IF THEY DON'T PERFORM TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS OR YOU ARE DISSATISFIED FOR ANY REASON YOU MAY RETURN FOR A FULL REFUND! (less shipping). "DELUXE" FATWHEELS ARE GUARANTEED FOR ONE YEAR AGAINST FAILURE/BREAKAGE. "ULTRA" FATWHEELS AND OUTRIGGERS ARE GUARANTEED FOR 10 YEARS, BUT WILL PROBABLY OUTLAST THE BICYCLE TO WHICH THEY ARE MOUNTED.
